Drunken poached pears made with Raven's Nest Mulling spices garnished with anise and cinnamon in a Christmas table setting

Drunken Poached Pears

Makes 4 pears
  • 4 Anjou pears, peeled
  • 3 cups semi-sweet red wine
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 cup Raven’s Nest Mulling Spices
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 Star Anise pods
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick
  1. Combine all ingredients except pears in a medium sauce pot. Heat liquid on the stovetop to just below a simmer, between 170-180 degrees.
  2. Once the liquid comes to temperature, add pears. The pears will be halfway covered with liquid. Turn the pears after 15 minutes, let cook for additional 15-20 minutes. Test pears with a tooth pick to ensure they are soft in the center.
  3. Once the pears are soft, remove them from the poaching liquid and serve warm.
